Environmental Award for “Vanthakkul Tirupur” Project
With a vision to build a greener tomorrow for future generations and to transform cities into a quality place for people to live, the eminent business people of Tirupur who started an NGO called VETRY to tackle the environmental problems of region.
On the eve of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam’s demise – VETRY took an oath of planting one of the lakh trees and its was name as “Vanthukkul Tirupur” with the commitment of maintaining them with two years of watering says, Mr. T.R.Sivaram, Classic Polo, President of VETRY. At present, they planted 4.25 lakh trees which have grown to 12 -16 ft now and they targeted to reach the magic number of 5 lakh by this year-end.
They engaged 30 people as a group, 30 Tractors, and a tanker lorry which hold 1,25,000 liters of water and regular volunteers who support a green environment made this dream come to reality in a short time., he added. The land should be covered by 34% of plants and trees whereas in Tamilnadu only 9% has covered by greenery and to overcome “Vanathukkul Tirupur” Project has been started and now this concept is recognized by people all over the country and our neighboring districts also started adopting this model in their places. To recognize and to motivate the project further, the government of Tamilnadu granted with Environmental Award for the year 2016. “I took this opportunity to thank every volunteer, landlords who provided space for planting trees, Industrialists who helped in funding money to get saplings, educational institutions and media people for the success”.
